Key findings: P6410 - Tourist accommodation, April 2019

Measured in nominal terms (current prices), total income for the tourist accommodation industry increased by 3,7% in April 2019 compared with April 2018.

Income from accommodation increased by 5,5% year-on-year in April 2019, the result of a 1,0% decrease in the number of stay unit nights sold and a 6,6% increase in the average income per stay unit night sold.

In April 2019, the types of accommodation that recorded the largest year-on-year growth in income from accommodation were:

  • 'other' accommodation (13,9% and contributing 3,9 percentage points); and
  • hotels (2,6% and contributing 1,7 percentage points).

Income from accommodation increased by 1,4% in the three months ended April 2019 compared with the three months ended April 2018. The main contributor to this increase was 'other' accommodation (6,3% and contributing 1,7 percentage points).

Seasonally adjusted income from accommodation increased by 1,5% month-on-month in April 2019. Positive month-on-month growth rates were recorded for:

  • hotels (2,4%); and
  • 'other' accommodation (1,8%).
