Key findings: P6410 - Tourist accommodation, November 2018

Measured in nominal terms (current prices), total income for the tourist accommodation industry increased by 2,7% in November 2018 compared with November 2017.

Income from accommodation increased by 4,8% year-on-year in November 2018, the result of a 3,4% decrease in the number of stay unit nights sold and an 8,4% increase in the average income per stay unit night sold.

In November 2018, the types of accommodation that recorded positive year-on year growth in income from accommodation were:

  • 'other' accommodation (7,2%); and
  • hotels (4,9%).

Positive contributors to the 4,8% year-on-year increase in income from accommodation in November 2018 were:

  • hotels (contributing 3,2 percentage points); and
  • 'other' accommodation (contributing 1,8 percentage points).

Income from accommodation increased by 2,8% in the three months ended November 2018 compared with the three months ended November 2017. The main contributors to this increase were:

  • 'other' accommodation (9,4% and contributing 2,5 percentage points); and
  • hotels (2,1% and contributing 1,4 percentage points).

Seasonally adjusted income from accommodation increased by 1,9% month-on-month in November 2018. Positive month-on-month growth rates were recorded for:

  • guest-houses and guest-farms (17,3%); and
  • hotels (2,9%).
