Key findings: P6410 - Tourist accommodation, April 2024

Measured in nominal terms (current prices), total income for the tourist accommodation industry increased by 4,5% in April 2024 compared with April 2023.

Income from accommodation increased by 7,0% year-on-year in April 2024, the result of a 3,5% increase in the number of stay unit nights sold and a 3,4% increase in the average income per stay unit night sold.

In April 2024, the largest contributors to the 7,0% year-on-year increase in income from accommodation were:

  •  hotels (7,8% and contributing 4,9 percentage points); and
  • ‘other’ accommodation (6,3% and contributing 2,0 percentage points).

Income from accommodation increased by 9,1% in the three months ended April 2024 compared with the three months ended April 2023. The main positive contributors to this increase were:

  • hotels (7,9% and contributing 5,1 percentage points); and
  •  ‘other’ accommodation (15,7% and contributing 4,5 percentage points).

Guest-houses and guest-farms (-11,9% and contributing -0,7 of a percentage point) was the only negative contributor.

Seasonally adjusted income from accommodation increased by 1,7% month-on-month in April 2024 following a decrease of 0,8% month-on-month in March 2024.
