Key findings: P6410 - Tourist accommodation, March 2024

Measured in nominal terms (current prices), total income for the tourist accommodation industry increased by 7,8% in March 2024 compared with March 2023

Income from accommodation increased by 10,1% year-on-year in March 2024, the result of a 4,2% increase in the number of stay unit nights sold and a 5,7% increase in the average income per stay unit night sold.

In March 2024, the largest contributors to the 10,1% year-on-year increase in income from accommodation were:

  • ‘other’ accommodation (22,4% and contributing 6,2 percentage points); and
  •  hotels (7,2% and contributing 4,7 percentage points).

Income from accommodation increased by 11,8% in the first quarter of 2024 compared with the first quarter of 2023. The main contributors to this increase were:

  • hotels (10,1% and contributing 6,5 percentage points); and
  • ‘other’ accommodation (21,2% and contributing 6,0 percentage points).

Seasonally adjusted income from accommodation decreased by 0,4% month-on-month in March 2024 following a decrease of 0,2% month-on-month in February 2024.
