Key findings: P6410 - Tourist accommodation, April 2023

Measured in nominal terms (current prices), total income for the tourist accommodation industry increased by 25,8% in April 2023 compared with April 2022.

Income from accommodation increased by 30,9% year-on-year in April 2023, the result of a 9,3% increase in the number of stay unit nights sold and a 19,7% increase in the average income per stay unit night sold.

In April 2023, the largest contributors to the 30,9% year-on-year increase in income from accommodation were:

  • hotels (31,3% and contributing 15,0 percentage points); and
  •  ‘other’ accommodation (33,7% and contributing 14,7 percentage points).

Income from accommodation increased by 41,3% in the three months ended April 2023 compared with the three months ended April 2022. The main contributors to this increase were:

  • hotels (45,7% and contributing 22,8 percentage points); and
  •   ‘other’ accommodation (39,0% and contributing 16,1 percentage points).

Seasonally adjusted income from accommodation increased by 4,2% month-on-month in April 2023 following a decrease of 1,6% month-on-month in March 2023.
