Key findings: P6410 - Tourist accommodation, December 2023

Measured in nominal terms (current prices), total income for the tourist accommodation industry increased by 6,8% in December 2023 compared with December 2022.

Income from accommodation increased by 10,2% year-on-year in December 2023, the result of a 3,6% increase in the number of stay unit nights sold and a 6,4% increase in the average income per stay unit night sold.

In December 2023, the largest contributors to the 10,2% year-on-year increase in income from accommodation were:

  •  hotels (10,9% and contributing 7,2 percentage points); and
  •  ‘other’ accommodation (14,3% and contributing 4,0 percentage points).

Income from accommodation increased by 11,9% in the fourth quarter of 2023 compared with the fourth quarter of 2022. The main contributors to this increase were:

  • hotels (13,1% and contributing 8,4 percentage points); and 
  • ‘other’ accommodation (15,2% and contributing 4,4 percentage points).

Seasonally adjusted income from accommodation increased by 2,7% month-on-month in December 2023 following a decrease of 1,4% month-on-month in November 2023.
