Key findings: P6410 - Tourist accommodation, October 2023

Measured in nominal terms (current prices), total income for the tourist accommodation industry increased by 6,1% in October 2023 compared with October 2022.

Income from accommodation increased by 10,7% year-on-year in October 2023, the result of a 2,0% decrease in the number of stay unit nights sold and a 13,0% increase in the average income per stay unit night sold.

In October 2023, the largest contributors to the 10,7% year-on-year increase in income from accommodation were:

  • hotels (12,2% and contributing 7,7 percentage points); and
  •  ‘other’ accommodation (13,7% and contributing 4,1 percentage points).

Income from accommodation increased by 18,3% in the three months ended October 2023 compared with the three months ended October 2022. The main contributors to this increase were:

  •    hotels (19,2% and contributing 11,9 percentage points); and
  • ‘other’ accommodation (20,8% and contributing 6,4 percentage points).

Seasonally adjusted income from accommodation decreased by 4,2% month-on-month in October 2023 following a decrease of 4,2% month-on-month in September 2023.
