Key findings: P6410 - Tourist accommodation, September 2023

Measured in nominal terms (current prices), total income for the tourist accommodation industry increased by 14,1% in September 2023 compared with September 2022.

Income from accommodation increased by 18,4% year-on-year in September 2023, the result of a 2,7% increase in the number of stay unit nights sold and a 15,3% increase in the average income per stay unit night sold.

In September 2023, the largest contributors to the 18,4% year-on-year increase in income from accommodation were:

  • hotels (16,0% and contributing 10,1 percentage points); and
  •    ‘other’ accommodation (24,7% and contributing 7,4 percentage points).

Income from accommodation increased by 24,6% in the third quarter of 2023 compared with the third quarter of 2022. The main contributors to this increase were:

  • hotels (25,6% and contributing 15,7 percentage points); and
  •  ‘other’ accommodation (27,1% and contributing 8,5 percentage points).

Seasonally adjusted income from accommodation decreased by 4,4% month-on-month in September 2023 following an increase of 0,5% month-on-month in August 2023.
