Key findings: P6410 - Tourist accommodation, August 2023

Measured in nominal terms (current prices), total income for the tourist accommodation industry increased by 20,8% in August 2023 compared with August 2022.

Income from accommodation increased by 27,3% year-on-year in August 2023, the result of a 10,2% increase in the number of stay unit nights sold and a 15,5% increase in the average income per stay unit night sold.

In August 2023, the largest contributors to the 27,3% year-on-year increase in income from accommodation were:

  • hotels (31,5% and contributing 18,8 percentage points); and
  •  ‘other’ accommodation (25,0% and contributing 8,3 percentage points).

Income from accommodation increased by 31,2% in the three months ended August 2023 compared with the three months ended August 2022. The main contributors to this increase were:

  • hotels (32,9% and contributing 20,0 percentage points); and
  • ‘other’ accommodation (34,4% and contributing 11,0 percentage points).

Seasonally adjusted income from accommodation increased by 0,7% month-on-month in August 2023 following a decrease of 1,5% month-on-month in July 2023.
