Key findings: P6410 - Tourist accommodation, May 2022

Measured in nominal terms (current prices), total income for the tourist accommodation industry increased by 86,6% in May 2022 compared with May 2021.

 

Income from accommodation increased by 61,6% year-on-year in May 2022, the result of a 31,9% increase in the number of stay unit nights sold and a 22,5% increase in the average income per stay unit night sold.

 

In May 2022, the largest contributors to the 61,6% year-on-year increase in income from accommodation were:

  • hotels (93,2% and contributing 44,5 percentage points); and
  • ‘other’ accommodation (32,0% and contributing 14,2 percentage points).

 

Income from accommodation increased by 59,2% in the three months ended May 2022 compared with the three months ended May 2021. The main contributors to this increase were:

  • hotels (83,8% and contributing 40,1 percentage points); and
  • ‘other’ accommodation (36,5% and contributing 16,1 percentage points).

 

Seasonally adjusted income from accommodation increased by 11,8% month-on-month in May 2022 and by 9,4% month-on-month in April 2022.
