Key findings: P6410 - Tourist accommodation, September 2021

Measured in nominal terms (current prices), total income for the tourist accommodation industry increased by 56,9% in September 2021 compared with September 2020.

Income from accommodation increased by 74,4% year-on-year in September 2021, the result of a 62,0% increase in the number of stay unit nights sold and a 7,6% increase in the average income per stay unit night sold.

In September 2021, all accommodation types recorded positive year-on-year growth in income from accommodation. The largest year-on-year increases in income from accommodation were reported by:

  •    guest-houses and guest-farms (218,3% and contributing 7,7 percentage points); and
  •    hotels (100,3% and contributing 42,3 percentage points).

Income from accommodation increased by 115,7% in the third quarter of 2021 compared with the third quarter of 2020. The main contributors to this increase were:

  •   hotels (126,6% and contributing 54,7 percentage points); and
  •  ‘other’ accommodation (95,7% and contributing 48,7 percentage points).

Seasonally adjusted income from accommodation increased by 20,2% month-on-month in September 2021. The largest positive month-on-month growth rates were recorded for:

  •    guest-houses and guest-farms (30,3%);

·       hotels (21,5%); and

  •    ‘other’ accommodation (19,4%).
