Key findings: P6410 - Tourist accommodation, April 2021

Measured in nominal terms (current prices), total income for the tourist accommodation industry increased by 3 259,7% in April 2021 compared with April 2020.

 

Income from accommodation increased by 2 443,9% year-on-year in April 2021, the result of a 2 054,6% increase in the number of stay unit nights sold and an 18,1% increase in the average income per stay unit night sold.

 

In April 2021, all accommodation types recorded large positive year-on-year growth in income from accommodation. The largest year-on-year increases in income from accommodation were reported by caravan parks and camping sites and guest-houses and guest-farms.

 

The main contributors to the year-on-year increase in income from accommodation in April 2021 were hotels and ‘other’ accommodation.

 

Income from accommodation decreased by 32,2% in the three months ended April 2021 compared with the three months ended April 2020. The negative contributors to this decrease were:

  • hotels (-40,4% and contributing -27,3 percentage points); and

  • ‘other’ accommodation (-18,6% and contributing -5,2 percentage points).

 

Seasonally adjusted income from accommodation increased by 33,9% month-on-month in April 2021. The largest positive month-on-month growth rates were recorded for:

  • guest-houses and guest-farms (56,9%);

  • ‘other’ accommodation (34,5%); and

  • hotels (32,9%).
