Key findings: P6410 - Tourist accommodation, January 2021

Measured in nominal terms (current prices), total income for the tourist accommodation industry decreased by 72,9% in January 2021 compared with January 2020.

 

Income from accommodation decreased by 71,2% year-on-year in January 2021, the result of a 58,1% decrease in the number of stay unit nights sold and a 31,2% decrease in the average income per stay unit night sold.

 

In January 2021, all accommodation types recorded large negative year-on-year growth in income from accommodation. The largest year-on-year decreases in income from accommodation were reported by:

  • hotels (-77,3% and contributing -50,5 percentage points); and

  • ‘other’ accommodation (-61,5% and contributing -18,3 percentage points).

 

Income from accommodation decreased by 62,6% in the three months ended January 2021 compared with the three months ended January 2020. The main contributors to this decrease were:

  • hotels (-67,3% and contributing -44,1 percentage points); and

  • ‘other’ accommodation (-55,0% and contributing -16,2 percentage points).

 

Seasonally adjusted income from accommodation decreased by 39,3% month-on-month in January 2021 and increased by 39,8% month-on-month in December 2020.
