Key findings: P6410 - Tourist accommodation, March 2018

Measured in nominal terms (current prices), total income for the tourist accommodation industry decreased by 0,8% in March 2018 compared with March 2017.

Income from accommodation decreased by 1,6% year-on-year in March 2018, the result of a 2,7% decrease in the number of stay unit nights sold and a 1,2% increase in the average income per stay unit night sold.

In March 2018, hotels decreased by 3,9% (contributing -2,6 percentage points) year-on-year.

Income from accommodation decreased by 0,3% in the first quarter of 2018 compared with the first quarter of 2017. The main contributor to this decrease was hotels (-1,4% and contributing -0,9 of a percentage point).

Seasonally adjusted income from accommodation decreased by 3,6% month-on-month in March 2018. The largest negative month-on-month growth rates were recorded for:

  • caravans parks and camping sites (-29,9%);
  • 'other' accommodation (-7,5%); and
  • guest-houses and guest-farms (-6,3%).
