Key findings: P6410 - Tourist accommodation, May 2017
Measured in nominal terms (current prices), total income for the tourist accommodation industry decreased by 1,8% in May 2017 compared with May 2016.
Income from accommodation increased by 4,9% year-on-year in May 2017, the result of a 1,7% decrease in the number of stay unit nights sold and a 6,7% increase in the average income per stay unit night sold.
The main positive contributors to the 4,9% year-on-year increase in income from accommodation in May 2017 were hotels (4,6% and contributing 3,1 percentage points) and ‘other’ accommodation (8,4% and contributing 2,2 percentage points).
Income from accommodation increased by 6,5% in the three months ended May 2017 compared with the three months ended May 2016. The main contributors to this increase were ‘other’ accommodation (14,3% and contributing 3,7 percentage points) and hotels (4,1% and contributing 2,7 percentage points).
Seasonally adjusted income from accommodation decreased by 1,0% month-on-month in May 2017. The largest negative month-on-month growth rates were recorded for:
- caravans parks and camping sites (-13,4%);
- guest-houses and guest farms (-6,7%); and
- 'other' accommodation (-1,2%).
