Key findings: P6410 - Tourist accommodation, September 2016

Measured in nominal terms (current prices), total income for the tourist accommodation industry increased by 7,1% in September 2016 compared with September 2015.

Income from accommodation increased by 8,9% year-on-year in September 2016, the result of a 2,0% increase in the number of stay unit nights sold and a 6,8% increase in the average income per stay unit night sold.

In September 2016, the type of accommodation that recorded the highest year-on-year growth in income from accommodation was guest-houses and guest-farms (21,9%).

The main contributor to the 8,9% year-on-year increase in income from accommodation in September 2016 was hotels (contributing 5,2 percentage points).

Income from accommodation increased by 12,6% in the third quarter of 2016 compared with the third quarter of 2015. The main contributors to this increase were:
• hotels (10,2% and contributing 6,7 percentage points); and
• 'other' accommodation (16,7% and contributing 4,6 percentage points).
