Key findings: P6410 - Tourist accommodation, November 2014

Measured in nominal terms (current prices), total income for the tourist accommodation industry increased by 7,0% in November 2014 compared with November 2013.

Income from accommodation increased by 8,1% year-on-year in November 2014, the result of a 1,4% increase in the number of stay unit nights sold and a 6,5% increase in the average income per stay unit night sold.

In November 2014, the types of accommodation that recorded the highest year-on-year growth rates in income from accommodation were caravan parks and camping sites (40,9%) and guest-houses and guest-farms (13,5%).

The main contributors to the 8,1% year-on-year increase in income from accommodation in November 2014 were hotels (contributing 4,3 percentage points) and ‘other’ accommodation (contributing 2,7 percentage points).

Income from accommodation increased by 8,8% in the three months ended November 2014 compared with the three months ended November 2013. The main contributors to this increase were:

  • hotels (7,8% and contributing 5,0 percentage points); and
  • ‘other’ accommodation (10,0% and contributing 2,9 percentage points).
