Key findings: P6410 - Tourist accommodation, October 2014

Measured in nominal terms (current prices), total income for the tourist accommodation industry increased by 8,0% in October 2014 compared with October 2013.

Income from accommodation increased by 9,3% year-on-year in October 2014, the result of a 6,9% increase in the number of stay unit nights sold and a 2,2% increase in the average income per stay unit night sold.

In October 2014, the types of accommodation that recorded the highest year-on-year growth rates in income from accommodation were caravan parks and camping sites (64,5%) and ‘other’ accommodation (11,6%) .

The main contributors to the 9,3% year-on-year increase in income from accommodation in October 2014 were hotels (contributing 5,2 percentage points) and ‘other’ accommodation (contributing 3,4 percentage points).

Income from accommodation increased by 9,6% in the three months ended October 2014 compared with the three months ended October 2013. The main contributors to this increase were:

  • hotels (9,7% and contributing 6,2 percentage points); and
  • ‘other’ accommodation (9,6% and contributing 2,9 percentage points).
