Key findings: P6410 - Tourist accommodation, April 2014

Measured in nominal terms (current prices), total income for the tourist accommodation industry increased by 12,9% in April 2014 compared with April 2013.

Income from accommodation increased by 19,0% year-on-year in April 2014, the result of a 9,8% increase in the number of stay unit nights sold and an 8,4% increase in the average income per stay unit night sold.
In April 2014, the types of accommodation that recorded the highest year-on-year growth rates in income from accommodation were caravan parks and camping sites (58,7%) and guest-houses and guest-farms (42,9%).

  • The main contributors to the 19,0% year-on-year increase in income from accommodation in April 2014 were ‘other’ accommodation (contributing 8,1 percentage points) and hotels (contributing 7,4 percentage points).

Income from accommodation increased by 10,2% in the three months ended April 2014 compared with the three months ended April 2013. The main contributors to this increase were:

  • hotels (8,3% and contributing 5,3 percentage points); and
  • 'other' accommodation (10,1% and contributing 2,8 percentage points)
