Key findings: P6410 - Tourist accommodation, October 2013

Measured in nominal terms (current prices), total income for the tourist accommodation industry increased by 9,5% in October 2013 compared with October 2012.

Income from accommodation increased by 8,1% year-on-year in October 2013, the result of a 2,4% increase in the number of stay unit nights sold and a 5,5% increase in the average income per stay unit night sold.

In October 2013, the types of accommodation that recorded positive year-on-year growth rates in income from accommodation were hotels (9,2%), 'other' accommodation (6,6%) and guest-houses and guest-farms (5,5%).

  • The main contributors to the 8,1% year-on-year increase in income from accommodation in October 2013 were hotels (contributing 6,0 percentage points) and ‘other’ accommodation (contributing 1,8 percentage points).

Income from accommodation increased by 10,5% in the three months ended October 2013 compared with the three months ended October 2012. The main contributors to this increase were:

  • hotels (11,3% and contributing 7,3 percentage points); and 'other' accommodation (10,1% and contributing 2,8 percentage points)
