Key findings: P6343.2 - Motor trade sales, August 2020

Measured in nominal terms (current prices), motor trade sales decreased by 11,3% year-on-year in August 2020. The largest negative annual growth rates were recorded for:

  • fuel sales (-20,7%);
  • convenience store sales (-18,4%); and
  • new vehicle sales (-15,1%).

 

Seasonally adjusted motor trade sales increased by 6,4% in August 2020 compared with July 2020. This followed month-on-month changes of 3,0% in July 2020 and 58,8% in June 2020.

 

In the three months ended August 2020, seasonally adjusted motor trade sales increased by 70,8% compared with the previous three months.

 

Motor trade sales decreased by 12,6% in the three months ended August 2020 compared with the three months ended August 2019. The main contributors to this decrease were:

  • fuel sales (-26,9% and contributing -8,0 percentage points); and
  • new vehicle sales (-14,3% and contributing -3,7 percentage points).
