Key findings: P6343.2 - Motor trade sales, July 2020

Measured in nominal terms (current prices), motor trade sales decreased by 12,5% year-on-year in July 2020. The largest negative annual growth rates were recorded for:

  • fuel sales (-23,3%);
  • new vehicle sales (-16,8%); and
  • convenience store sales (-16,7%) – see Table 5.

 

Seasonally adjusted motor trade sales increased by 4,4% in July 2020 compared with June 2020. This followed month-on-month changes of 59,3% in June 2020 and 165,7% in May 2020.

 

In the three months ended July 2020, seasonally adjusted motor trade sales increased by 11,7% compared with the previous three months.

 

Motor trade sales decreased by 25,1% in the three months ended July 2020 compared with the three months ended July 2019. The main contributors to this decrease were:

·         fuel sales (-36,2% and contributing -10,8 percentage points);

·         new vehicle sales (-27,1% and contributing -6,9 percentage points); and

·         used vehicle sales (-16,6% and contributing -3,0 percentage points).
