Key findings: P6343.2 - Motor trade sales, June 2020

The COVID-19 pandemic and lockdown regulations since 27 March 2020 have had an extensive impact on economic activity. Measured in nominal terms (current prices), motor trade sales decreased by 12,8% year-on-year in June 2020. The largest negative annual growth rates were recorded for:

  • fuel sales (-34,1%);
  • convenience store sales (-22,3%); and
  • workshop income (-11,5%).

Seasonally adjusted motor trade sales increased by 59,1% in June 2020 compared with May 2020. This followed month-on-month changes of 166,8% in May 2020 and -75,9% in April 2020.

 

In the second quarter of 2020, seasonally adjusted motor trade sales decreased by 44,8% compared with the first quarter of 2020.

 

Motor trade sales decreased by 49,1% in the second quarter of 2020 compared with the second quarter of 2019. The main contributors to this decrease were:

·         fuel sales (-51,8% and contributing -15,7 percentage points);

·         new vehicle sales (-52,0% and contributing -12,8 percentage points);

·         used vehicle sales (-50,7% and contributing -9,0 percentage points); and

·         sales of accessories (-40,1% and contributing -6,8 percentage points).
