Actual motor trade sales estimates


Measured in nominal terms (current prices), motor trade sales decreased by 1,2% in October 2019 compared with October 2018. Fuel sales decreased by 10,1% (contributing -3,1 percentage points) while used vehicle sales increased by 7,4% (contributing 1,3 percentage points).


Seasonally adjusted motor trade sales increased by 0,4% in October 2019 compared with September 2019. This followed month-on-month changes of -2,7% in September 2019 and 1,0% in August 2019.


In the three months ended October 2019, seasonally adjusted motor trade sales increased by 0,2% compared with the previous three months.


Motor trade sales increased by 0,1% in the three months ended October 2019 compared with the three months ended October 2018. The main positive contributors were:

·         used vehicle sales (4,3% and contributing 0,8 of a percentage point);

·         new vehicle sales (2,8% and contributing 0,7 of a percentage point); and

·         sales of accessories (3,7% and contributing 0,6 of a percentage point).

 

Fuel sales decreased by 6,7% (contributing -2,1 percentage points) over this period.
