Key findings: P6343.2 - Motor trade sales, March 2019

Measured in nominal terms (current prices), motor trade sales decreased by 4,9% year-on-year in March 2019. Negative annual growth rates were recorded for:

  • new vehicle sales (-17,4%);
  • used vehicle sales (-9,5%); and
  • workshop income (-1,1%).

Seasonally adjusted motor trade sales increased by 1,7% in March 2019 compared with February 2019. This followed month-on-month changes of -1,3% in February 2019 and 0,8% in January 2019.

In the first quarter of 2019, seasonally adjusted motor trade sales decreased by 2,5% compared with the previous quarter.

Motor trade sales decreased by 2,2% in the first quarter of 2019 compared with the first quarter of 2018. The main contributor was new vehicle sales (-8,5% and contributing -2,4 percentage points).
