Key findings: P6343.2 - Motor trade sales, August 2021

Measured in nominal terms (current prices), motor trade sales increased by 12,4% year-on-year in August 2021. The largest annual growth rates were recorded for:

·         new vehicle sales (20,3%);

·         fuel sales (15,4%); and

·         convenience store sales (11,1%).

 

Seasonally adjusted motor trade sales increased by 13,5% in August 2021 compared with July 2021. This followed month-on-month changes of -9,6% in July 2021 and -4,2% in June 2021.

 

In the three months ended August 2021, seasonally adjusted motor trade sales decreased by 4,5% compared with the previous three months.

 

Motor trade increased by 9,9% in the three months ended August 2021 compared with the three months ended August 2020. The main contributors to this increase were:

·         fuel sales (19,0% and contributing 5,1 percentage points); and

·         new vehicle sales (12,4% and contributing 2,7 percentage points).
