Key findings: P6343.2 - Motor trade sales, May 2021

Measured in nominal terms (current prices), motor trade sales increased by 102,1% year-on-year in May 2021. All six types of activity showed year-on-year increases in May 2021. The main contributors were:

  • new vehicle sales (158,6% and contributing 31,5 percentage points);
  • fuel sales (90,3% and contributing 26,6 percentage points); and
  • used vehicle sales (152,9% and contributing 23,8 percentage points).

 

Seasonally adjusted motor trade sales increased by 2,0% in May 2021 compared with April 2021. This followed month-on-month changes of 1,6% in April 2021 and 3,1% in March 2021.

 

In the three months ended May 2021, seasonally adjusted motor trade sales increased by 6,7% compared with the previous three months.

 

Motor trade sales increased by 104,5% in the three months ended May 2021 compared with the three months ended May 2020. The main contributors to this increase were:

  • new vehicle sales (156,4% and contributing 32,1 percentage points);
  • used vehicle sales (164,3% and contributing 25,0 percentage points); and
  • fuel sales (67,7% and contributing 22,5 percentage points).
