Key findings: P6343.2 - Motor trade sales, April 2021

Measured in nominal terms (current prices), motor trade sales increased by 528,8% year-on-year in April 2021. All six types of activity showed year-on-year increases in April 2021. The main contributors were:

  • new vehicle sales (1 258,1% and contributing 147,7 percentage points);
  • fuel sales (219,9% and contributing 121,6 percentage points); and
  • used vehicle sales (3 841,2% and contributing 116,7 percentage points).

 

Seasonally adjusted motor trade sales increased by 1,2% in April 2021 compared with March 2021. This followed month-on-month changes of 2,9% in March 2021 and 3,4% in February 2021.

 

In the three months ended April 2021, seasonally adjusted motor trade sales increased by 4,7% compared with the previous three months.

 

Motor trade sales increased by 50,8% in the three months ended April 2021 compared with the three months ended April 2020. The main contributors to this increase were:

  • new vehicle sales (72,5% and contributing 16,3 percentage points); and
  • used vehicle sales (77,7% and contributing 13,1 percentage points).
