Key findings: P6343.2 - Motor trade sales, March 2021

Measured in nominal terms (current prices), motor trade sales increased by 25,7% year-on-year in March 2021. All six types of activity showed year-on-year increases in March 2021. The main contributors were:

  • new vehicle sales (47,4% and contributing 10,7 percentage points);
  • used vehicle sales (45,5% and contributing 7,8 percentage points); and
  • sales of accessories (25,4% and contributing 4,5 percentage points).

 

Seasonally adjusted motor trade sales increased by 2,9% in March 2021 compared with February 2021. This followed month-on-month changes of 3,2% in February 2021 and -1,9% in January 2021.

 

In the first quarter of 2021, seasonally adjusted motor trade sales increased by 2,0% compared with the fourth quarter of 2020.

 

Motor trade sales increased by 2,6% in the first quarter of 2021 compared with the first quarter of 2020. The main positive contributors to this increase were:

  • used vehicle sales (14,5% and contributing 2,7 percentage points); and
  • new vehicle sales (10,8% and contributing 2,6 percentage points).
