Key findings: P6343.2 - Motor trade sales, January 2021

Measured in nominal terms (current prices), motor trade sales decreased by 10,2% year-on-year in January 2021. All six types of activities showed year-on-year decreases in January 2021. The main contributors were:

  • fuel sales (-21,6% and contributing -6,5 percentage points); and
  • new vehicle sales (-7,6% and contributing -1,8 percentage points).

 

Seasonally adjusted motor trade sales decreased by 1,6% in January 2021 compared with December 2020. This followed month-on-month changes of 0,1% in December 2020 and 1,6% in November 2020.

 

In the three months ended January 2021, seasonally adjusted motor trade sales increased by 0,4% compared with the previous three months.

 

Motor trade sales decreased by 5,3% in the three months ended January 2021 compared with the three months ended January 2020. The main negative contributor to this decrease was fuel sales (-17,5% and contributing -5,4 percentage points).
