Key findings: P6343.2 - Motor trade sales, December 2020

Measured in nominal terms (current prices), motor trade sales decreased by 0,2% year-on-year in December 2020. Negative annual growth rates were recorded for:

  • fuel sales (-11,6%);
  • convenience store sales (-4,1%); and
  • new vehicle sales (-0,9%).

 

Seasonally adjusted motor trade sales increased by 0,7% in December 2020 compared with November 2020. This followed month-on-month changes of 1,6% in November 2020 and -2,1% in October 2020.

 

In 2020, motor trade sales decreased by 16,3% compared with 2019. The largest contributors were:

  • fuel sales (-21,7% and contributing -6,4 percentage points); and
  • new vehicle sales (-20,2% and contributing -5,1 percentage points).

 

Seasonally adjusted motor trade sales increased by 3,0% in the fourth quarter of 2020 compared with the previous quarter.

 

Motor trade sales decreased by 4,3% in the fourth quarter of 2020 compared with the fourth quarter of 2019. The main negative contributor to this decrease was fuel sales (-14,6% and contributing -4,4 percentage points).
