Actual motor trade sales estimates

Motor trade sales increased by 9,9% in the three months ended November 2012 compared with the three months ended November 2011. Sales for the corresponding period in 2011 increased by 16,8%.

The major contributors to the increase of 9,9% were:

  • fuel sales (13,9% and contributing 3,9 percentage points);
  • new vehicle sales (10,9% and contributing 3,0 percentage points); and
  • used vehicle sales (9,1% and contributing 1,5 percentage points).

Motor trade sales rose by 11,1% year-on-year in November 2012. The highest annual growth rates were recorded for fuel sales (13,5%), new vehicle sales (13,4%) and convenience store sales (10,4%).

Seasonally adjusted motor trade sales

Seasonally adjusted motor trade sales decreased by 1,9% month-on-month in November 2012, following month-on-month changes of 7,5% in October 2012 and -0,2% in September 2012. Seasonally adjusted motor trade sales increased by 4,5% in the three months ended November 2012 compared with the previous three months.
