Motor trade sales increase

Motor trade sales for the third quarter of 2008 increased by 5,4% compared with the third quarter of 2007, while the corresponding growth for the same period in 2007 was 3,7%. This increase is largely due to increased fuel sales which contributed 7,1 percentage points to the 5,4% growth. New and used vehicle sales contributed negatively to the 5,4% increase in motor trade sales (-4,8 percentage points and -0,6 of a percentage point respectively).
 
Motor trade sales for September 2008 increased by 6,2% compared with September 2007, while sales for the corresponding period of 2007 decreased by 1,2%.

Seasonally adjusted motor trade sales for the third quarter of 2008 decreased by 4,2% compared with the second quarter of 2008.
