Key findings: P6242.1 - Retail trade sales, September 2024

Measured in real terms (constant 2019 prices), retail trade sales increased by 0,9% year-on-year in September 2024. The largest positive contributor to this increase was general dealers (4,5% and contributing 2,1 percentage points) and the largest negative contributor was retailers in textiles, clothing, footwear and leather goods (-5,5% and contributing -0,9 of a percentage point).


Seasonally adjusted retail trade sales decreased by 0,8% in September 2024 compared with August 2024. This followed month-on-month changes of 0,6% in August 2024 and -0,2% in July 2024.


Retail trade sales increased by 2,0% in the third quarter of 2024 compared with the third quarter of 2023. The largest contributor to this increase was general dealers (4,3% and contributing 1,9 percentage points).


Seasonally adjusted retail trade sales increased by 0,7% in the third quarter of 2024 compared with the second quarter of 2024. The largest positive contributors to the increase were general dealers (1,1% and contributing 0,5 of a percentage point) and retailers in textiles, clothing, footwear and leather goods (2,1% and contributing 0,4 of a percentage point). The largest negative contributor was retailers in hardware, paint and glass (-5,0% and contributing -0,4 of a percentage point).
