Key findings: P6242.1 - Retail trade sales, January 2022

Measured in real terms (constant 2015 prices), retail trade sales increased by 7,7% year-on-year in January 2022. The main positive contributors were retailers in:

·          food, beverages and tobacco products in specialised stores (70,9% and contributing 3,5 percentage points); and

·          textiles, clothing, footwear and leather goods (17,4% and contributing 3,0 percentage points).

 

Seasonally adjusted retail trade sales increased by 1,5% in January 2022 compared with December 2021. This followed month-on-month changes of 1,7% in December 2021 and 1,7% in November 2021. In the three months ended January 2022, seasonally adjusted retail trade sales increased by 4,3% compared with the previous three months.


Retail trade sales increased by 4,2% in the three months ended January 2022 compared with the three months ended January 2021. The main positive contributors to this increase were retailers in:

·          textiles, clothing, footwear and leather goods (14,6% and contributing 2,7 percentage points); and

·          food, beverages and tobacco in specialised stores (15,1% and contributing 1,0 percentage point).
