Key findings: P6242.1 - Retail trade sales, December 2021

Measured in real terms (constant 2015 prices), retail trade sales increased by 3,1% year-on-year in December 2021. The main positive contributor to this increase was retailers in textiles, clothing, footwear and leather goods (15,2% and contributing 3,1 percentage points).

In 2021, retail trade sales increased by 6,4% compared with 2020. All seven types of retailer showed positive year-on-year growth rates over this period. The main contributor was retailers in textiles, clothing, footwear and leather goods (19,2% and contributing 3,0 percentage points).

 

Seasonally adjusted retail trade sales increased by 1,5% in December 2021 compared with November 2021. This followed month-on-month changes of 1,6% in November 2021 and -1,3% in October 2021. In the fourth quarter of 2021, seasonally adjusted retail trade sales increased by 5,3% compared with the third quarter of 2021.


Retail trade sales increased by 2,6% in the fourth quarter of 2021 compared with the fourth quarter of 2020. The main positive contributor to this increase was retailers in textiles, clothing, footwear and leather goods (11,3% and contributing 2,1 percentage points).
