Key findings: P6242.1 - Retail trade sales, September 2021

Measured in real terms (constant 2015 prices), retail trade sales increased by 2,1% year-on-year in September 2021. The largest annual growth rates were recorded for retailers in:

·         textiles, clothing, footwear and leather goods (11,3%); and

·         pharmaceuticals and medical goods, cosmetics and toiletries (10,4%).

The main contributor to this increase was retailers in textiles, clothing, footwear and leather goods (contributing 1,6 percentage points).

 

Seasonally adjusted retail trade sales increased by 5,1% in September 2021 compared with August 2021. This followed month-on-month changes of 4,9% in August 2021 and -11,2% in July 2021. In the third quarter of 2021, seasonally adjusted retail trade sales decreased by 5,4% compared with the second quarter of 2021.

 

Retail trade sales decreased by 0,2% in the third quarter of 2021 compared with the third quarter of 2020. The main negative contributors to this decrease were:

·         general dealers (-1,9% and contributing -0,8 of a percentage point); and

·          retailers in hardware, paint and glass (-5,0% and contributing -0,5 of a percentage point). 

The main positive contributor was retailers in textiles, clothing, footwear and leather goods (7,0% and contributing 1,0 percentage point).
