Key findings: P6242.1 - Retail trade sales, June 2021

Measured in real terms (constant 2015 prices), retail trade sales increased by 10,4% year-on-year in June 2021. The largest annual growth rates were recorded for:

  • all 'other' retailers (34,5%);
  • general dealers (13,1%); and
  • retailers in food, beverages and tobacco products in specialised stores (8,2%).

The main contributors to this increase were:

  • general dealers (contributing 6,1 percentage points); and
  • all 'other' retailers (contributing 2,6 percentage points).

Seasonally adjusted retail trade sales increased by 0,6% in June 2021 compared with May 2021. This followed month-on-month changes of 2,3% in May 2021 and -0,5% in April 2021. In the second quarter of 2021, seasonally adjusted retail trade sales increased by 0,7% compared with the first quarter of 2021.

Retail trade sales increased by 30,7% in the second quarter of 2021 compared with the second quarter of 2020. The main contributors to this increase were:

  • retailers in textiles, clothing, footwear and leather goods (56,9% and contributing 8,9 percentage points);
  • all 'other' retailers (115,1% and contributing 6,7 percentage points); and
  • general dealers (10,2% and contributing 5,3 percentage points).
