Key findings: P6242.1 - Retail trade sales, July 2018

Measured in real terms (constant 2015 prices), retail trade sales increased by 1,3% year-on-year in July 2018. The highest annual growth rates were recorded for:

  • all 'other' retailers (6,9%);
  • retailers in household furniture, appliances and equipment (6,9%); and
  • retailers in textiles, clothing, footwear and leather goods (3,0%).

The main contributor to the 1,3% increase was all ‘other’ retailers (contributing 0,9 of a percentage point).

Seasonally adjusted retail trade sales increased by 1,3% in July 2018 compared with June 2018. This followed month-on-month changes of -1,1% in June 2018 and 1,3% in May 2018.

In the three months ended July 2018, seasonally adjusted retail trade sales showed no growth compared with the previous three months.

Retail trade sales increased by 1,9% in the three months ended July 2018 compared with the three months ended July 2017. The main contributors to this increase were:

  • all 'other' retailers (10,4% and contributing 1,2 percentage points); and
  • retailers in household furniture, appliances and equipment (11,2% and contributing 0,5 of a percentage point).
