Key findings: P6242.1 - Retail trade sales, November 2017

Measured in real terms (constant 2015 prices), retail trade sales increased by 8,2% year-on-year in November 2017. The highest annual growth rates were recorded for:

  • all 'other' retailers (20,8%);
  • retailers in household furniture, appliances and equipment (14,1%); and
  • retailers in textiles, clothing, footwear and leather goods (12,4%).

The main contributors to the 8,2% increase were:

  • general dealers (contributing 2,6 percentage points);
  • retailers in textiles, clothing, footwear and leather goods (contributing 2,3 percentage points); and
  • all 'other' retailers (contributing 2,2 percentage points).

Seasonally adjusted retail trade sales increased by 4,0% month-on-month in November 2017. This followed month-on-month changes of -0,1% in October 2017 and -0,4% in September 2017. In the three months ended November 2017, seasonally adjusted retail trade sales increased by 2,4% compared with the previous three months.

Retail trade sales increased by 5,9% in the three months ended November 2017 compared with the three months ended November 2016. The main contributors to this increase were:

  • all 'other' retailers (18,5% and contributing 2,0 percentage points);
  • retailers in textiles, clothing, footwear and leather goods (9,3% and contributing 1,6 percentage points); and
  • general dealers (3,3% and contributing 1,4 percentage points).
