Key findings: P6242.1 - Retail trade sales, June 2017

Measured in real terms (constant 2012 prices), retail trade sales increased by 2,9% year-on-year in June 2017. The highest annual growth rates were recorded for:

  • retailers in food, beverages and tobacco in specialised stores (12,4%);
  • retailers in household furniture, appliances and equipment (8,3%); and
  • all 'other' retailers (5,8%).

The main contributors to the 2,9% increase were:

  •  general dealers (contributing 1,1 percentage points); and
  • retailers in food, beverages and tobacco in specialised stores (contributing 0,9 of a percentage point).

Seasonally adjusted retail trade sales increased by 0,2% month-on-month in June 2017. This followed month-on-month changes of 0,9% in May 2017 and 0,8% in April 2017. In the second quarter of 2017, seasonally adjusted retail trade sales increased by 2,1% compared with the previous quarter.

Retail trade sales increased by 2,2% in the second quarter of 2017 compared with the second quarter of 2016. The main contributors to this increase were:

  •  general dealers (2,6% and contributing 1,1 percentage points); and
  • retailers in food, beverages and tobacco in specialised stores (12,8% and contributing 0,9 of a  percentage point).
