Key findings: P6242.1 - Retail trade sales, February 2017

Measured in real terms (constant 2012 prices), retail trade sales decreased by 1,7% year-on-year in February 2017. Negative annual growth rates were recorded for:
• retailers in textiles, clothing, footwear and leather goods (-7,6%);
• retailers in household furniture, appliances and equipment (-6,5%);
• retailers in hardware, paint and glass (-5,5%); and
• all "other" retailers (-5,5%).

The main contributor to the 1,7% decrease was retailers in textiles, clothing, footwear and leather goods (contributing -1,3 percentage points).

Seasonally adjusted retail trade sales increased by 0,8% month-on-month in February 2017. This followed month-on-month changes of -1,2% in January 2017 and -2,5% in December 2016. In the three months ended February 2017, seasonally adjusted retail trade sales decreased by 1,3% compared with the previous three months.

Retail trade sales decreased by 0,7% in the three months ended February 2017 compared with the three months ended February 2016. The main contributor to this decrease was general dealers (-2,0% and contributing -0,9 of a percentage point).
