Key findings: P6242.1 - Retail trade sales, November 2016

Measured in real terms (constant 2012 prices), retail trade sales increased by 3,8% year-on-year in November 2016. The highest annual growth rates were recorded for:

  •  retailers in hardware, paint and glass (5,4%);
  •  retailers in pharmaceuticals and medical goods, cosmetics and toiletries (4,9%); and
  •  general dealers (4,7%).

The main contributor to the 3,8% increase was general dealers (contributing 2,0 percentage points).

Seasonally adjusted retail trade sales increased by 3,5% month-on-month in November 2016. This followed month-on-month changes of -0,6% in October 2016 and 0,8% in September 2016. In the three months ended November 2016, seasonally adjusted retail trade sales increased by 1,7% compared with the previous three months.

Retail trade sales increased by 1,8% in the three months ended November 2016 compared with the three months ended November 2015. The main contributors to this increase were retailers in:

  • hardware, paint and glass (5,8% and contributing 0,5 of a percentage point);
  • food, beverages and tobacco in specialised stores (6,0% and contributing 0,4 of a percentage point); and
  • pharmaceuticals and medical goods, cosmetics and toiletries (4,8% and contributing 0,4 of a percentage point).
