Key findings: P6242.1 - Retail trade sales, May 2014

Measured in real terms (constant 2012 prices), retail trade sales increased by 2,4% year-on-year in May 2014. The highest annual growth rates were recorded for:

  • all 'other' retailers (4,2%); and
  • retailers in textiles, clothing, footwear and leather goods (3,9%).

The main contributors to the 2,4% increase were general dealers (contributing 1,0 percentage point) and retailers in textiles, clothing, footwear and leather goods (contributing 0,9 of a percentage point).

Seasonally adjusted retail trade sales increased by 0,8% month-on-month in May 2014. This followed month-on-month changes of 0,4% in April 2014 and -1,1% in March 2014.

Seasonally adjusted retail trade sales decreased by 0,8% in the three months ended May 2014 compared with the previous three months.

Retail trade sales increased by 1,8% in the three months ended May 2014 compared with the three months ended May 2013. The main contributors to this increase were retailers in textiles, clothing, footwear and leather goods (4,4% and contributing 0,9 of a percentage point) and general dealers (1,0% and contributing 0,4 of a percentage point).
