Key findings: P6242.1 - Retail trade sales, March 2014

Measured in real terms (constant 2012 prices), retail trade sales increased by 1,0% year-on-year in March 2014. The highest annual growth rates were recorded for retailers in:

  • textiles, clothing, footwear and leather goods (5,1%); and
  • hardware, paint and glass (3,3%.

The main contributor to the 1,0% increase was retailers in textiles, clothing, footwear and leather goods (contributing 0,9 of a percentage point).

Seasonally adjusted retail trade sales decreased by 1,4% month-on-month in March 2014. This followed month-on-month changes of -0,3% in February 2014 and 0,2% in January 2014.

Seasonally adjusted retail trade sales increased by 0,6% in the first quarter of 2014 compared with the previous quarter.

Retail trade sales increased by 3,2% in the first quarter of 2014 compared with the first quarter of 2013. The main contributors to this increase were:

  • retailers in textiles, clothing, footwear and leather goods (8,9% and contributing 1,7 percentage points); and
  • general dealers (2,2% and contributing 0,9 of a percentage point).
