Key findings: P6242.1 - Retail trade sales, December 2011

Measured in real terms (constant 2008 prices), seasonally adjusted retail trade sales increased by 1,3% in December 2011 compared with November 2011. This followed month-on-month changes of -0,1% in November 2011 and 0,8% in October 2011.

In real terms, retail trade sales for the fourth quarter of 2011 reflected an increase of 7,9% compared with the fourth quarter of 2010. The largest contributors to the 7,9% increase were `retailers in textiles, clothing, footwear and leather goods` (10,5% and contributing 2,4 percentage points), `general dealers` (6,6% and contributing 2,4 percentage points) and `all other retailers` (8,5% and contributing 1,0 percentage point).

Retail trade sales in real terms increased by 8,7% year-on-year in December 2011. The highest annual growth rate was recorded for `retailers in textiles, clothing, footwear and leather goods` (11,3%), followed by `all other retailers` (10,9%) and `retailers in household furniture, appliances and equipment` (9,7%).
