Retail trade sales in real terms

Seasonally adjusted retail trade sales, at constant 2008 prices, for the three months ended February 2010 reflected an increase of 3,1% compared with the three months ended November 2009. Retail trade sales, at constant 2008 prices, for the three months ended February 2010 reflected a decrease of 2,5% compared with the three months ended February 2009, while sales for the corresponding period in 2009 decreased by 1,1%.

The main contributors to the decrease of 2,5% for the three months ended February 2010 compared with the three months ended February 2009 were all other retailers (-10,5% and contributing -1,5 percentage points), general dealers (-2,6% and contributing -1,0 percentage point) and retailers in hardware, paint and glass (-12,9% and contributing -0,8 of a percentage point).

Retail trade sales, at constant 2008 prices, for February 2010 reflected a decrease of 1,5% compared with February 2009.

Retail trade sales in nominal terms

Retail trade sales, at current prices, for the three months ended February 2010 compared with the three months ended February 2009 increased by 3,9%. The main contributors to this increase were general dealers (6,1% and contributing 2,4 percentage points) and retailers in textiles, clothing, footwear and leather goods (7,0% and contributing 1,4 percentage points).

Retail trade sales, at current prices, for February 2010 increased by 4,0% compared with February 2009, while sales for the corresponding period in 2009 increased by 7,1%.
