Key findings: P6242.1 - Retail trade sales, June 2009

Retail trade sales, at constant (2008) prices, for the second quarter of 2009 reflected a decrease of 6,0% compared with the second quarter of 2008, while sales for the second quarter of 2008 remained unchanged compared with the second quarter of 2007. Retail trade sales, at constant (2008) prices, for June 2009 reflected a decrease of 6,7% compared with June 2008.

The major contributors to the decrease of 6,0% in retail trade sales, at constant (2008) prices, for the second quarter of 2009 compared with the second quarter of 2008 were general dealers (-4,4% and contributing -1,8 percentage points), retailers in hardware, paint and glass (-23,1% and contributing -1,7 percentage points) and other retailers  (-10,1% and contributing -1,2 percentage points).

Retail trade sales, at current prices, for the second quarter of 2009 increased by 4,8% compared with the second quarter of 2008. The major contributors to this increase were general dealers (8,0% and contributing 3,2 percentage points) and retailers of food, beverages and tobacco in specialised stores (11,4% and contributing 1,2 percentage points).

Retail trade sales, at current prices, for June 2009 increased by 3,6% compared with June 2008, while sales for the corresponding period in 2008 increased by 12,8%.
