Retail trade sales show an increase in real terms

Retail trade sales at constant (2000) prices, for the second quarter of 2007, showed an increase of 7,2% compared with the second quarter of 2006. Similarly, retail trade sales at constant (2000) prices, for the first six months of 2007, increased by 8,3% compared with the first six months of 2006. This is lower than the 9,5% growth for the first six months of 2006 compared with the corresponding six months of 2005.

Retail trade sales at constant (2000) prices, for June 2007, showed an increase of 6,4% compared with June 2006.  This growth was partially affected by a decrease of 13,5% in the sales of retailers in household furniture, appliances and equipment for June 2007 compared to June 2006, mainly due to the introduction of the new National Credit Act on 1 June 2007.

Retail trade sales at current prices, for the second quarter of 2007, increased by 14,3% compared with the second quarter of 2006. Furthermore, retail trade sales at current prices, for June 2007, increased by 13,6% compared with June 2006. The corresponding growth rate for June 2006 was 15,4%.
