This statistical release contains results from the Retail Trade Large Sample Survey on financial and employment information in the Retail Trade Industry. This is a periodic survey, which measures economic activity in the retail trade industry of the South African economy. The survey is based on a sample of income tax registered private and public enterprises operating in the retail trade industry. Results of the survey are used within Stats SA for compiling South Africa’s National Accounts, e.g. the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and gross fixed capital formation. These statistics are also used by the private sector in analyses of comparative business and industry performance.
